Bayerisches Long-Covid Register im Rahmen des BZI
Bavarian Long COVID Registry within the BZI
Background
The administrative office of the Bavarian Center for Infection Research is based at the Institute of Hygiene and Microbiology at the Julius Maximilian University of Würzburg.
At the outpatient clinic for infectious diseases at the University Hospital Würzburg, patients with post-acute infection and vaccination-related syndromes are treated and, where feasible, enrolled in the Bavarian Long COVID Registry.
The Institute of General Practice and Family Medicine contributes expertise in clinical trials and health services research on post-COVID conditions. Its work focuses on analysing patients’ care trajectories (“patient journeys”) to map healthcare processes across sectors and providers—from initial diagnosis through ongoing management. This approach aims to identify structural gaps and opportunities for improving care delivery.
The Central Laboratory of the University Hospital Würzburg complements these activities through the systematic collection and analysis of biomaterials. The objective is to identify and validate biomarkers that may improve diagnostic accuracy, support prognostic stratification, and inform the development of targeted therapeutic approaches for post-COVID conditions.
